You're likely overpaying for a service you've never re-priced

Medical waste disposal is a required service most practices haven't re-priced in years. Auto-renewal escalators and fuel, environmental, and stoppage fees get buried in the fine print — and under RCRA cradle-to-grave rules, liability never leaves your practice unless legal title transfers at pickup. The result is steady overspend and exposure most facilities don't see until something goes wrong.

What Your Facility Generates

Regulated medical waste streams we manage

OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) defines regulated waste broadly. We manage every stream under one compliant program.

🩸
Red Bag Waste (Infectious / Biohazard)
Contaminated gloves, gowns, gauze, blood-soaked materials, culture dishes — packaged in leak-resistant red bags inside rigid, DOT-approved outer containers and shipped as UN3291, Medical Waste, N.O.S.
💉
Sharps Waste
Needles, syringes, lancets, scalpels, and broken lab glass. OSHA requires sharps to go into puncture-resistant, leak-proof containers at the point of use — never recapped by hand.
⚕️
Trace Chemotherapy Waste
Gloves, gowns, tubing, and empty vials contaminated with trace antineoplastic agents — collected separately in dedicated yellow containers under EPA and state guidelines.
🧬
Pathological Waste
Human or animal tissue, organs, and body fluids from surgery, biopsy, autopsy, or lab procedures — typically requires incineration with stricter handling in most states.
🧫
Microbiological and Laboratory Waste
Cultures and stocks of infectious agents, discarded vaccines, culture dishes — common in clinical labs, research facilities, and hospitals with in-house labs.
Containment

Medical waste containers — supplied, delivered, replaced

Proper containment is the first line of compliance. All containers are supplied, delivered, and replaced as part of your agreement — no separate ordering, no inventory to track.

🗑️
Red Bag Waste Containers
3-gal countertop bins up to 32-gal for large departments, sized to generation rate and state limits.
📦
Sharps Containers
Rigid, puncture-resistant, 1-quart to 5-gallon, plus wall-mounted brackets. Replaced at three-quarters full.
🟡
Chemotherapy Waste Containers
Yellow, labeled, kept fully separate from red bag waste at all times.
🔒
Secondary Containment
Supplied as needed when a primary container's exterior becomes contaminated, per OSHA.
Our Process

How our medical waste pickup service works

1
Facility Assessment
We review your facility type, waste streams, generation volume, and state regulations to determine the right container sizes, frequency, and documentation.
2
Container Placement and Staff Orientation
DOT-approved, labeled containers placed for each stream, with staff orientation supporting OSHA's training requirement.
3
Scheduled Pickup
Calibrated to your generation rate and state storage limits — weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or on-demand. We monitor accumulation-time rules automatically.
4
DOT-Compliant Transport
Transported by licensed carriers under 49 CFR Parts 171–180, with a manifest documenting waste type, quantity, and chain of custody.
5
Treatment at a Licensed TSDF
Processed at licensed facilities — autoclave for most infectious streams, incineration for pathological and certain chemo waste.
6
Certificate of Destruction
A digital certificate stored with every manifest in your portal — your complete cradle-to-grave documentation chain.
Active Federal Requirements

Who regulates what — and what it costs to get wrong

Medical waste regulation operates across overlapping federal and state frameworks. Knowing who enforces what is essential to a defensible program.

Why Facilities Trust MP1 Solution

Compliance isn't theoretical — regulators act

These published enforcement actions show what's at stake when title transfer, segregation, or documentation breaks down, and why a fully managed, fully insured program matters.

Urgent care clinic, Missouri — EPA RCRA enforcement (2022)$47,000 penalty
A clinic's hauler had a transport incident in which regulated medical waste spilled in transit. Because the contract did not transfer title at pickup, the clinic remained the generator of record.
US Physical Therapy, 600+ locations — EPA (2023)$380,000 settlement
Contracts with regional haulers lacked title-transfer provisions, leaving the company as generator of record during two transport incidents.
Dental practice, New York — OSHA inspection (2023)$28,450 citation
An inspection triggered by a needlestick report found sharps containers overfilled past the fill line, loose sharps in general waste, and pharmaceutical waste co-mingled with infectious waste.
National Veterinary Associates, 1,000+ clinics — OSHA + EPA (2022)$215,000 settlement
Inspections across multiple clinics found systemic segregation failures: pharmaceutical waste in red bags and sharps in non-approved containers.

Switching Providers

What to expect if you're considering a switch

If inconsistent pickups, surprise fees, or an auto-renewing contract have you looking elsewhere, switching is simpler than most facilities expect. Most facilities complete the switch within two to four weeks with zero gap in compliant coverage.

📄
"We're in a contract."
Most can be reviewed, negotiated, or bought out early. We offer several transition programs and will help you time the move so you don't trigger another term.
🏪
"We're happy with our local provider."
Local providers typically can't afford full title transfer or multi-million-dollar coverage, and they're acquisition-prone — 150+ have been absorbed in the last 30 years. If yours is acquired, your terms can change overnight.
🏢
"We're happy with our national vendor."
Most facilities feel that way — until they compare their current invoice against their original quote. Surcharges and annual escalators add up quietly, and they're exactly what a free rate review surfaces.
Frequently Asked Questions

Medical waste disposal — common questions

"Biohazard waste" is an informal term for materials contaminated with blood, body fluids, or OPIM. "Regulated medical waste" (RMW) is the formal classification that carries legal obligations — manifesting, storage limits, treatment requirements. In a clinical setting, biohazard waste is RMW and must be managed accordingly.
Under 29 CFR 1910.1030: liquid or semi-liquid blood or OPIM; items that could release these if compressed; contaminated sharps; pathological waste; and microbiological waste. State rules expand on this and govern thresholds such as how much blood saturation triggers classification.
Cost depends on waste volume, container sizes, pickup frequency, waste type, and location — and contract structure is often where overspend hides. Because pricing is specific to your facility, the accurate way to know your number is a free, no-obligation quote. MP1 Solution returns proposals within one business day.
Frequency depends on your generation rate and your state's maximum accumulation time limits — often up to 30–90 days for small-quantity generators. High-volume facilities typically need weekly or bi-weekly service. We set the right frequency and adjust as your needs change.
A manifest documenting waste type, quantity, container count, and chain of custody, followed by a digital certificate of destruction after treatment. Both are stored in your portal. Most states require retaining manifests for three to five years.
Complete, documented chain of custody from generation through final destruction. When MP1 Solution picks up your waste, title and liability transfer to us; you keep the manifest as proof of transfer and receive a certificate of destruction as proof of compliant disposal.
Yes. OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen Standard requires a written Exposure Control Plan addressing regulated waste, reviewed annually and available to employees and inspectors. We can advise on what yours should include.
Yes. Medical waste disposal can be combined with services such as compliance training, document and data shredding, and pharmaceutical disposal under one agreement — typically reducing total cost and simplifying vendor management to one provider, one invoice, one point of contact.
When you dispose of medical waste, the generator remains liable until title transfers at pickup. MP1 Solution takes full title at the curb and handles the transition logistics so there is never a gap in compliant coverage.
